Lawn Mowing
Be the master of your lawn.
Lawn mowing is probably the most important cultural aspect of caring for a lawn. When we encounter a troubled lawn, it usually has something to do with the way it is getting mowed. Most homeowners do not mow tall enough, especially in the summer months. So, set your mower at the highest setting and give it a chance, at least one season, and you’ll be happy you joined the club.
Peters Lawn Service has set the standard for commercial and residential lawn mowing in Mankato, MN for the last 25 years. Our professional lawn mowing service is normally contracted for the season. Contracts are negotiated on a seasonal or per time basis in which the lawn is mowed every 7 to 10 days or as weather dictates. We operate and maintain a professional fleet of the best equipment available. We guarantee that your lawn will be mowed with sharp blades on the correct size mower for your area. Priority service is always given to our contracted customers.
Peters Lawn Service also provides Rough Mowing for maintaining out lots.
Lawn Mowing Tips:
For the first 2 mows in the Spring and the last 2 mows in the fall, mow your lawn shorter, at a height of 3 to 3 ½ inches. For the rest of the year, mow at a height of 3 ½ to 4 inches (the highest settings on your mower). Make sure to sharpen your blade 2-3 times per season (we sharpen every 5 days). After each mowing, check and clean the underside of the mower deck. Do not cut off more than 1/3 of the blade of grass when you mow. In other words, do not mow overgrown grass too short – you will end up cutting into the growing point (stem) of the grass and that will cause stress and provide a better opportunity for weeds. Normally, there is no need to bag the grass, the clippings will benefit your soil (adding Nitrogen) as long as they are spread evenly (don’t leave clumps). Make sure to switch your mowing patterns and overlap so you don’t lay down grass by always going the same direction with your tire tracks. If there is excessive cut grass, clumps, an uneven cut, or grass is layed down, turn around and re-cut. Get it right this time! Mow your lawn during the cool part of the day. Mulching the leaves into your lawn will add phosphorus to your soil. Always clean up your lawn late into the Fall so it will be ready to perform in the Spring.
