Grassy Weeds
What kind of grass is this anyway?
Grassy weeds can be very frustrating to understand, identify, & eliminate while trying to maintain a beautiful lawn. The most common, aggressive grassy weed that invades our local lawns is crabgrass, an annual. Crabgrass is most commonly controlled with a pre-emergent herbicide, but can also be controlled with a post-emergent herbicide. Crabgrass will start to die off in the Fall, therefore it is not usually cost effective to spray with a post-emergent herbicide.
Peters Lawn Service includes a pre-emergent crabgrass control with most standard lawn care programs. The product we use is the best on the market and is applied at the right time to be most effective.
Other grassy weeds that invade our local lawns are Quackgrass, Tall Fescue, Foxtail, and Yellow Nutsedge. These perennial grassy weeds can be very difficult to eliminate and often require repeat applications of a specialty herbicide as well soil conditioning which is part of a lawn renovation program.
Peters Lawn Service provides the application of a specialty herbicide that will control Tall Fescue, Yellow Nutsedge & Quackgrass without killing your existing turf grass. This program requires special timing between mowing, repeat applications, a follow up fertilization, and a renovation plan to be effective.
Grassy Weed Control Tips:
An invasion of grassy weeds in your lawn can indicate a much broader problem. Often times it is an indicator of a poor soil that is lacking nutrients and organic matter. Soil Compaction is also a problem. In order to eliminate perennial grassy weeds, herbicide applications need to be followed by a lawn renovation program that will fix the poor soil conditions along with over seeding with a high quality grass seed.
