Broadleaf Weeds

Get the job done right.

Broadleaf weeds like dandelion, clover, thistle, creeping charlie, spurge & wild violet are some of the most common in our local lawns. Weed seeds can sit in your soil for many years waiting for the right time to germinate.  Depending on your location, environmental conditions, and management practices, these weeds can seem to be a constant problem.  Hand digging weeds can be an effective cultural way to eliminate weeds in your landscape beds, but is often very difficult and ineffective in your lawn.  Broadleaf weeds are most effectively controlled with a post emergent broadleaf herbicide application at a time when they are most actively growing.

Peters Lawn Service provides an effective, environmentally responsible weed control application by experienced, licensed applicators. We use the best products at the correct rates at the right time.  Rainfall or watering after a broadleaf application can be beneficial.

Broadleaf Weed Control Tips:

Keeping a lawn “weed free” takes more than one or two herbicide applications each year.  Regular fertilization and Core Aeration encourages healthy roots and thick turf, which is the very best weed prevention there is.  Mowing tall (3-4 inches) helps to shade the soil, making weed seed germination more difficult.  When you mow too short, you can stress your lawn and allow light to penetrate the soil surface making it more likely for weed seeds to germinate.  Sometimes, tolerance of a few weeds may be necessary.
